Jazz & Wine Festival of Montalcino, now in its
25th edition, was held from July 19 to 24 this year. This festival aims to
combine the best jazz music with high-quality wine and was organized under the artistic direction of
Eugenio Rubei. The initiative was promoted by the municipality of Montalcino, in collaboration with the Banfi Winery and the Rubei family from the Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome. The 25th edition was dedicated to the outstanding and unforgettable artistic direction of
Paolo Rubei.
Who Are the Featured Artists?
As every year,
Montalcino welcomed international stars from the global music scene. The
25th edition opened with a sound entirely dedicated to samba, featuring performances by
Paula and
Jacques Morelenbaum. Their
CelloSam3aTrio celebrated the diverse sounds of the beautiful land of Brazil.
Jazz took center stage the following day, Wednesday, with the intimate yet engaging sound of
Ron Carter, a true double bass maestro. He was joined by three other jazz greats:
Jimmy Greene on saxophone,
Renee Rosnes on piano, and
Payton Crossley on drums.
One of the most anticipated events of the festival took place on Thursday, July 21, with the debut performance of the
Alexanderplatz National Orchestra. This ensemble featured
23 musicians, including ten strings accompanied by jazz-style brass, all impeccably directed by Maestro
Franco Piana. Created under the aegis of the
Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the orchestra presents an original project blending classical and Afro-American sounds. The evening also showcased a standout performance by guitarist and composer
Francesco Bruno.
Friday night featured the renowned
Richard Galiano, whose music and accordion playing created a magical atmosphere within the Fortress of Montalcino. He was accompanied by
Adrien Moignard on guitar and
Diego Imbert on double bass, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the acclaimed musician.
The festival's final two days included performances by a jazz trio led by Grammy-winning bassist
John Patitucci, joined by
Rogerio Boccato on drums and
Yotam Silberstein on guitar. The grand finale featured a concert by the acclaimed
Mario Biondi, accompanied by the
Scannapieco brothers.
